Here is hoping for a speedy recovery for the officer. There may be video from the 7-11 store where the alleged disturbance came from. It will be interesting to see what develops.
K9 units is such an important part of policing. The dogs are very powerful and can really injure a person. The officer must know when to release the dog and that the commands are thought out. I have seen over the years these officers grow a bond with the dogs. The officers are usually very trained. There is usually added salary, which is always a nice perk. However, the assignment comes with such responsibility for the citizendry.
So how do the folks in San Diego feel about the whole move? I hate it. I absolutely hate it. Stay in San Diego. I will tell you if the Chargers move to LA I will be searching from a new team.
If this does get implemented I do not want to hear about budget issues regarding body cameras. Getting a single point of entry at a high school? Are you going to be watching the far fence as someone hops over it? If it is known the school officer is near the entrance than the logical place to sneak in is.....just about everywhere else. Also, if someone starts shooting wouldnt that one entrance/exit be the best place?
Technology has advanced criminal law and crime prevention. However, it must run with rules of evidence that has been in place for some time. The 911 call gives some sense of the incident. A judge or juror can hear the 911 call and place it with other facts to show emotion. A text message is words.
The Sheriff takes the primary policing in several cities and all unincorporated areas in the county. The Sheriff has an abudance of deputies because there is a significant number of them manning the jails and courthouses.
