As the Holidays approach, San Diego motorist can expect a full compliment of San Diego DUI Checkpoints. San Diego Police arrested 25 people for driving under the influence at San Diego sobriety checkpoints on the night of Nov. 22 and the morning of Nov. 23, San Diego Police Department officials said.
Of the 1,682 vehicles that passed through a checkpoint in the 1400 block of G Street in the East Village of downtown San Diego between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m., police screened 836 and detained 22 motorists for further evaluation of their sobriety. They arrested 11 for San Diego DUI and impounded 11 vehicles, Officer Mark McCullough said.
At a San Diego checkpoint in the 1600 block of Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach, San Diego police screened 571 of the 800 vehicles that passed through between 10:50 p.m. and 3 a.m., McCullough said. Twenty-seven San Diego motorists were detained for further evaluation and 14 were arrested for San Diego DUI. One of the drivers was arrested for being under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and four of the drivers were arrested for San Diego DUI after they failed to stop for a San Diego police officer, McCullough said.
McCullough reminded revelers to designate a sober driver and leave the keys at home before the festivities begin. San Diego Drivers who have been drinking should call a taxi, call a sober friend or take public transportation, he said.
