Police made 11 San Diego DUI arrests, according to San Diego police and California Highway Patrol officials.  From about 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., SDPD and CHP officials conducted the checkpoint in the 1500 block of Fifth Avenue in Downtown.

In total, 939 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 652 of them were screened by officers.

Officers detained 16 motorists for further evaluation and reported that they arrested 11 people suspected of a DUI in or near the checkpoint.

Along with the arrests, 12 vehicles were impounded and one motorist was cited for driving with a suspended license.

The checkpoint was made possible by a California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) “DUI Mini Grant,” which has funded other checkpoints in the past.
