9 arrested at San Diego DUI checkpoint in Mission Bay.

We have spoke at length about San Diego DUI checkpoints in Pacific Beach.  It is probably the #1 checkpoint spot in San Diego besides the Gaslamp (although Encinitas is moving up).

The second you tell police you were drinking there will be a San Diego DUI investigation.  Heck, there may be a DUI investigation if you say you did not drink.  The other day a family member just utilized her rights and told and officer at the checkpoint she did not want to answer any questions.  She did not drink but really utilizes her constitutional rights.  She was ordered to pull over and wait an hour.  She refused tests and to answer questions.  The officer has to make a decision and arrest or let her go.  Thankfully, she was let go.   However, I have had several clients do the same thing and was arrested.  It was after jail and their car towed and their license taken away they found out they were 0.0% blood alcohol level.  Their penalty for using their rights.   Think about it……their penalty for using their rights.

To me, San Diego DUI saturation patrols is a better method to finding impaired drivers.  We give so much power to police we always have to be vigilant.  Not because of non trust….but because our rights mean so much.  Have a great Sunday.

Nine motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in or near a driver’s license/sobriety checkpoint in the Mission Bay area of San Diego, a police officer said Saturday.

Ten vehicles were also impounded during the checkpoint in the 4200 block of Mission Bay Drive that began at 11:09 p.m. Friday and ended Saturday at 3 a.m., said San Diego police officer Mark McCullough.

McCullough said 1,780 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with 572 of those vehicles being screened by officers.
