Slightly more motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving on San Diego County highways and freeways over this year’s Thanksgiving Day weekend compared to the same period last year, authorities announced Tuesday.
Seventy-six people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving between 6:01 p.m. Wednesday and 11:59 p.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol, which said there were 70 arrests made in the same period last year.
Statewide, the CHP made 982 DUI arrests down from 1,201 in 2013. However, statewide fatalities over the holiday weekend were up from 33 in 2013 to 45 this year, the agency reported.
None of this year’s fatalities occurred in San Diego County, which logged two fatalities over Thanksgiving weekend last year.
The CHP tallies do not include San Diego DUI arrests made by other law enforcement agencies on city streets and other roadways not patrolled by the state police force
