This is a sad story. It is interesting to consider in all this why the police thought the person was San Diego DUI. In this case the person was found in a car. The car was parked. They were impaired. However, there was alcohol in the car with empty bottle and such. Is it just as reasonable the person parked and began drinking while listening to tunes or talking on the phone?
There is no evidence there was calls of someone driving San Diego DUI on the road. However, police detained him. This is an example of how police will usually arrest a person and sift through real evidence later. A person gets arrested, goes to jail, pays to bail out, get their car towed, etc.
San Diego police on Sunday were investigating the death of a man who was being detained on suspicion of drunk driving.
The man, described only as in this 50s, was found sitting in his car in the Bay Park neighborhood, according to Lt. Paul Rorrison.
Officers smelled alcohol on the man’s breath and saw open containers in the car, Rorrison said. Police also saw other symptoms of intoxication due to alcohol or drugs.
As the man was being questioned, he began to vomit and had trouble breathing, Rorrison said.
There was no struggle, nor did the officers use force to detain the man.
Officers provided first aid, Rorrison said, and the man was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner has scheduled an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
