San Diego Police Department headquarters briefly evacuated

This is one part about working at a government agency I am glad not to deal with.  As a Deputy City Attorney in the Civic Center we had many evacuations (some planned and some not). The issue is after a while you get numb to these scenarios and then something happens for real and you are ill-prepared.

I imagine this issue costed a lot of people office time at SDPD.

The San Diego Police Department’s downtown headquarters was briefly evacuated Thursday after a motorist told officers he believed there were explosives in his car. According to police, an unidentified man drove to the department’s sallyport at around 10 p.m., parked the car and told some officers that he thought someone put explosives in his car and asked to have it checked. Due to the nature of the request, evacuations at the building on 1400 Broadway were ordered, with all services moved to the SDPD’s Central Division. he vehicle was checked, but nothing was found, police said. he man said he found black residue under the car that he thought was dangerous but was later determined to be grease. br />Evacuations were lifted, and the vehicle was towed away, police said. Police said it appeared that the man may have had mental issues or been under the influence. He was being evaluated, according to police. The full article can be found here.
