San Diego Drunken driving arrests were up slightly and traffic fatalities were dramatically down on the first two-and-a-half days of the three-day Memorial Day weekend in San Diego County, according to statistics from the California Highway Patrol.
The county went from three fatalities in 2014 to zero fatalities in 2015 for the period from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday, states a CHP news release. San Diego DUI arrests went from 69 in 2014 to 72 in 2015 for the same period.
Statewide DUI arrests fell from 1111 in 2014 to 1010 in 2015, and fatalities went from 19 in 2014 to 18 in 2015.
Orange County had no fatalities either year, and went from 62 DUI arrests in 2014 to 45 arrests in 2015.
The DUI arrests are only those by CHP officers and not by other law enforement agencies. The traffic fatalities include those reported by all law enforcement agencies.
