The summer is long and police will continue to be vigilant with DUIs.

CHP is just one jurisdiction in San Diego county that made DUI arrests. It will be interesting what the finals numbers say.  The fact is people make unwise decisions.  Police make arrests that end up not being DUI arrests.  Alcohol is a fabric of our culture, especially the social scene.  These factors will mean DUIs will continue.  The key is to have the community be as safe as possible and ensure sanctions fit the conduct. Most importantly, that individuals rights are protected.

The number of DUI arrests and fatalities was down around California and in San Diego County during this year’s shortened Independence Day weekend, the California Highway Patrol announced Tuesday.

From Friday evening to Sunday night, 53 motorists were arrested in San Diego County for driving under the influence, compared to 87 arrests made in 2014, the CHP said. Statewide, there were 930 DUI arrests made in 2015, compared to 1,343 arrests made last year during the holiday weekend.
